Getting to Poros
Recommendations
Poros is a small island in the Saronic Gulf, about 60 km south of Athens — close enough for an easy journey, yet far enough to feel like a true getaway.
The nearest airport is Athens International Airport (ATH – Eleftherios Venizelos).
From there, you can either head to the port of Piraeus to take a ferry, or travel by car or bus to the nearby town of Galatas, which faces Poros across a narrow strait.
By ferry
Most guests will find the ferry the most convenient and scenic option.
From Athens Airport, take a taxi or the metro (Line 3, direction Piraeus) — about 60–75 minutes.
Ferries to Poros depart regularly from Piraeus Port.
Choose a high-speed ferry — the journey takes about 1 hour.
Tickets can be booked online. You can check out Ferryhopper to get an overview of available ferry routes and schedules to Poros.
Tip: Those prone to seasickness might want to pack some motion sickness medication for a smoother ferry ride.
By car
If you prefer to drive or travel by land:
Rent a car at Athens Airport and follow the coastal road via Corinth → Galatas (about 2.5 hours).
From Galatas, small car ferries or water taxis cross to Poros every few minutes (just 5 minutes across).
